Petra won her first German championship title in 1998 in the Europe dinghy.


In Petra's first Olympic games competition at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Petra finished 13th overall in Women's One Person Dinghy.


At the 2004 Summer Olympics Niemann finished 10th in the Women's One Person Dinghy. 

Petra along with 3 other German women Olympic athletes posed nude for Playboy magazine in 2008.  Niemann finished 15th in Beijing but who cares, we were all looking at Playboy!


In 2007 Niemann finished in third place at the World Cup.
